For any of you who do not know, Mike Coolbaugh was a minor league coach for the AA Tulsa Drillers who was killed tragically last July during a game. He was hit in the neck while coaching first base. He is the only coach in baseball history to die on the field.
Mike's wife of seven years, Mandy, was pregnant with their third child and recalled at the time that his kids encouraged him to get back in the game because they knew how much he loved it. Joe Torre talked about how he was always up for anything he was asked to do. He just wanted to be a part of the game.
The Mike Coolbaugh Memorial Golf Tournament takes place on November 8th in Texas and if anyone will be in that area, please participate in the event, which includes a live auction.
If you can't be there for it I hope you'll donate whatever you can. It is a way to remember a good man, a devoted baseball man, and most importantly, a way to help his wife and children.
